"They say it's your birthday; it's my birthday too, yeah!" That's a fun line from "Birthday," a song written by Lennon/McCartney and performed by the Beatles. If you would indulge me a moment, today, January 24, is my birthday.
I've always been a big fan of birthdays, mine and others. I think the word "birthday" is exciting, and what it can mean is invigorating. First, the birth dates of my children were both beautiful days in my life I will never forget. Next are the birthdays of friends and family, celebrating another year together and the days to come. And as for my birthday, who doesn't love the attention, special meals, and gifts?
Also for consideration is the more abstract concept of a birthday. I see a birthday as any birth of something new. It's the realization of something fresh you have never seen before in that light or particular way. "Birthday" is also a way you feel when a mammoth task is complete and sets you free. I've produced many designs and websites that were painful births but exciting birthdays.
Finally, there is my favorite type of birthday, the "rebirthday." Rebirth is a time when you shed the past like dead skin. You are fresh and new, and anything is possible. Isn't that a great feeling—when you feel like anything is possible?
So I have a wish for my birthday this year. Am I supposed to share it? Who cares? I wish all my clients, friends, and family celebrate amazing birthdays in all their favorite flavors.
Postscript: If you are wondering where in the world my head is, I can only say, 'I don't know.' It's entirely possible I've been watching too much "Kevin Probably Saves the World." If you have not heard of it, it's a very fresh, fun television show new this season on ABC. Celebrate your own birthday today, too, and give it a try, or share your new favorite show as a gift to me for my birthday! Yeah!
